| Whilst traveling within the European Economic Area, which includes EC countries, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, you are entitled to reciprocal state-provided health services at either a reduced price or free by taking what was originally known as an E111, but is now known as an EHIC card, (European Health Insurance Card).
Applying for an EHIC card is quick and easy and can be done in minutes online. Within just a few days your cards will arrive in the post but please allow extra time during peak holiday periods.
Apply online here for your EHIC Card
or apply by by calling 0845 606 2030;
or by picking up an application form from the Post Office.
The level of treatment you will receive is based on what the state provides to its own residents. In other non-EEA countries even this minimum may not apply.
The EEA consists of the European Union (EU) plus Iceland , Liechtenstein and Norway. Switzerland also operates the same arrangements as the EU countries.
