As anyone who's been on a skiing holiday will know, it can be a very expensive trip. If you have an annual multi trip insurance policy you may find that you are already covered for winter sports and the insurance policy may be the cheapest cost to your holiday.
An annual winter sports multi trip policy would be more suitable if you are planning on more than one winter sport holiday, you will usually be given a choice of the length of stay on the policy. If you decide to buy rather than hire your ski equipment, you will need to insure it against loss or damage. Unfortunately, so many British skiers are choosing to claim for their ‘lost' ski equipment that insurers are now making it much harder to claim. You will need to pay an excess on your policy but this could be for as little as £40. Many skiers opt for a ‘season cover' policy which could cost as little as £150 for a six months European trip.
The level of cover you are offered should at least include the following;
- Suffering injury whilst skiing or snowboarding
- Off piste skiing
- Cross country skiing
- Sledgin
The most comprehensive cover may include the following;
- Medical and Air Ambulance
- Personal Baggage and Money
- Ski Equipment - Hired and Owned up to £1000
- Piste Closure and Avalanche Delay
- Legal Expenses and Advice
You will need to tell your insurers if you have any pre existing medical conditions and also if;
- You have received treatment as a hospital in patient or out patient in the 12.
- You are undergoing or waiting to undergo further tests or consultations.
- You are on a hospital waiting list.
- You are traveling against the advice of a doctor or traveling to seek medical treatment abroad.
